Internationally there is an enormous amount of attention going out to (historical) census data. These data are not only used as a source in genealogic research; demographers, sociologists and historians use the quantative data for their research. See below for Census data from different countries:
Overview
- Historical Microdata around the World: gives an (uncomplete) overview of projects around the world concerning historical microdata.
- The IPUMS-International database is a preliminary version. It consists of 22 samples of census microdata from 7 countries and contains records for 49 million individuals.
- The North Atlantic Population Project is a collaboration of five organizations that have been central to the creation and dissemination of North Atlantic historical census data: the Minnesota Population Center, the UK Data Archive (Essex), the Norwegian Historical Data Centre (Tromso), the Digital Archive of the Norwegian National Censuses (Bergen) and the Institute for Canadian Studies (Ottawa).
United Kingdom
- The Great Britain Historical Database online: is a large database of British nineteenth and twentieth-century statistics.
- The 1901 Census of England & Wales: is used by genealogists, family historians, one name researchers and anyone wanting to know more about their Welsh & English ancestors in 1901. It can also be used to research hamlets, villages and parishes to build a historical perspective.
- Edina: is based at Edinburgh University Data Library, it is a JISC-funded national datacentre. It offers the UK tertiary education and research community networked access to a library of data, information and research resources.
- Collection of Historical and Contemporary Census Data and Related Materials: the central aim of the project is to develop the Collection of Historical and Contemporary Census data and related materials (CHCC) into a major DNER learning and teaching resource.
- The General Register Office for Scotland: is the department of the devolved Scottish Administration responsible for the registration of births, marriages, deaths, divorces and adoptions in Scotland, and for carrying out periodic censuses of Scotland's population.

Norway
- The Norwegian Social Science Data Services (NSD): is a national resource centre servicing the research community. Its main objective is to secure easy access for the Norwegian research community to data and to provide various services.
- The Norwegian Digital Arkivet: is a result of the co-operation between the History department at the University of Bergen, and the Regional State Archives of Bergen, a part of the National State Archives. Here you will find databases of censuses from Norway, but also from abroad where Norwegians settled.
United States
- US Census Data at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory: Nationwide data from the 1970, 1980, and 1990 U.S. Censuses were previously available at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). The LBNL data archive is believed to be the second largest collection of socio-economic data in the U.S.; the largest is the InterUniversity Consortium for Political and Social Research, (ICPSR), at the University of Michigan.

- The Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (IPUMS): consists of twenty-five high-precision samples of the American population drawn from thirteen federal censuses.
- Historical Census Browser: The data presented here describe the population and economy of U.S. states and counties from 1790 to 1960.
